Hello,
This is a picture of me, Emer. I am guessing as you are here you'd like to know a bit about me. Well, here goes...
I grew up on a sheep farm in Devon, England.
When I was young I dreamed of being a vet, but it soon became apparent I was not blessed with a scientific mind.
I also loved music (I was, and still am, a huge fanof The Cure), so I decided to set my sights on designing record covers. I was slightly more suited to this - I was good at art. However, this time my dream was dashed not by my inadequacy, but by the music industry - they stopped making records ( just in case you were born post 1990, records are these round, black things, about the size of a dinner plate that can play music).
Finally, though, I alighted on a career path that I could actually do. I went to work in the advertising industry. I got a job in London, worked hard, worked hard some more and after 15 years had (along with my creative partner) written and helped create some of the nation's favourite TV commercials - for John Lewis, Cadbury's, and Volkswagen amongst others.
I was a success.
I'd reached the top of my career.
But, I wasn't happy.
I didn't like being the boss.
And that's when I began to dream of being a children's author.
I threw caution to the wind and wrote my first book and, lo and behold, after spending two years finding an agent and getting a publishing deal - it was finally published. That book was The Unbelievable Top Secret
Diary of Pig.
I am now a full-time author and illustrator. I live in London with my husband, two children and a tank full of fish.
I am very happy.
I have no plans to try out any more careers.
I hope, when you read my books, that you will agree I have at last found the perfect job for me!
